Creating Drum pattern with REASON

This Reason Tutorial will show you how to create a Drum Pattern with 'Reason Music Composing software.


Step: 1

Arrange the document (Device Rack)

1. Open the REASON application and create a new document [ file -->new ]

2. Create a combinator[ create menu --> combinator ]

3. Create a 14:2 mixer [ create menu --> 14:2 mixer ]

4. Create a Drum [ create menu --> Redrum Drum computer ]

• Browse button ( We use this button to ad Drum patch )
• Select button ( When you make Drum pattern you must select Drum instruments one by one .Because we use select button to select instrument each other. )
• Step buttons ( We use this buttons to make Drum pattern. Mouse click on a step button to add a beat )
• Pattern selecting buttons ( You can make 32 Drum pattern with use this buttons )

Ad patch to redrum

1. Click browse button. Now you can view patch browser

2. Select Reason Factory Sound Bank and open Redrum Drum Kits. then you can view more Drum kits.

3. Find House Kits and open it.

4. Select House Kit 10.drp and after click OK button. Now you have been added a Drum patch successfully

Make a Drum pattern

1st Drum pattern
Select 'A 1' pattern by using pattern selecting buttons

Select your '1' Drum sound in REDRUM window (1st Picture above). ( to select 1 instrument use 1 select button ) Mark step button as below

Select your 3Drum sound. ( to select 3 instrument use 3 select button )

Select your 4 Drum sound. ( to select 4 instrument use 4 select button )

Select your 9 Drum sound. ( to select 9 instrument use 9 select button )

Select your 10 Drum sound. ( to select 10 instrument use 10 select button )

Now you have created a Drum pattern. click RUN button to play your Drum pattern.

2nd Drum pattern

Let's begin to create 2nd drum pattern. Select A 2 pattern using by pattern selecting buttons

Select your 1 Drum sound




Select your 2 Drum sound





Select your 3 Drum sound




Select your 9 Drum sound




Select your 10 Drum sound

3rd pattern

Select A 3 pattern using by pattern selecting buttons

Select your 1 Drum sound

Select your 3 Drum sound

Click and drag the Dynamic switch to SOFT. Mouse click on 11,12 step buttons

Click and drag the Dynamic switch to MEDIUM. Mouse click on 13,14 step buttons

Click and drag the Dynamic switch to HARD. Mouse click on 15,16 step buttons

How to add Drum pattern to sequencer window

Open the sequencer window [ Window --> Detach Sequencer Window ]

select Redrum and click Switch to edit mode and activate show pattern lane

Click this arrow button. then you can display a drop down list and select A3 select the pencil and draw a line

click again that arrow button and select A1 and draw a line

Double click the stop button an then click play button.
